More than 45 children aged five to thirteen are currently participating in The Freedom Theatre’s summer camp. Five leaders, including former Theatre School students, volunteers and staff, are focusing on enabling the children to play constructively and creatively to later continue with introducing theatrical themes. “The younger group has been responding particularly well to being told sorties and painting, and the older children have enjoyed clowning and competitive team games”, says Alaa Shehada, one of the camp leaders. “There is definitely many enthusiastic, committed young people who wish to continue learning with The Freedom Theatre.” At the end of the week the families of the children will be invited to the theatre for an informal graduation.

Parallel to the summer camp, ten young women are engaging in a painting and drawing workshop, led by a former photography student at The Freedom Theatre, Haifa Salah.  For two weeks, the participants will get to try out different forms of painting and drawing, and at the end of the workshop some of the pieces will be auctioned out in support of The Freedom Theatre’s continued multimedia activities.
