At the 10th Anniversary of The Freedom Theatre in the Jenin Refugee camp, the Friends of the Freedom Theatre from four different countries (Sweden, Portugal, France and USA – UK was not able to make it) gathered for the first time. We congratulate the Freedom Theatre on its incredible growth in the last 10 years and 5 years after the murder of its original artistic director and one of the founders Juliano Mer Khamis.
The Friends groups had time to meet with each other and re-affirm our commitment to support The Freedom Theatre. As Friends we raise consciousness and funding from our separate countries. In addition, each Friends committee has sponsored tours of various aspects on The Freedom Theatre in each country. We have committed ourselves to meet as the group of Friends of The Freedom Theatre once a year.
The Friends groups believe it is imperative to support civil society in Palestine and so we have individually decided to support not only civil society but an organisation that is committed to fighting the occupation through the arts.
