The Freedom Theatre and our partners in the Palestinian Performing Arts Network (PPAN) express our solidarity with the over 1,500 Palestinian political prisoners who since April 17 are on hunger strike in occupation prisons and detention centres. We encourage all our friends to raise their voices with the prisoners to demand their rights and their freedom.

Saltwater is all the hunger strikers will take until their demands are met. The demands concern the treatment of the prisoners in accordance with international law, including the right to family visits, proper medical care, an end to Israel’s practice of detaining Palestinians without charge or trial in so-called administrative detention and stopping the use of isolation.

Currently over 6,500 Palestinians, including 61 women and 300 children, are held in prisons outside the occupied territories, which in itself is a breach of international law.
