On the 6th of January, a group of 18 aspiring actors, theatre workers, dramatists and filmmakers commenced the eight-week trial period for The Freedom Theatre School, a three-year educational program. The participants came from Jenin, other parts of the West Bank and from Palestine ’48, today Israel, to be introduced to all aspects of the artistic work in The Freedom Theatre.

After working intensively during the eight weeks and going through an individual audition, ten young women and men were accepted as students in the Theatre School. They have now embarked upon a journey that will undoubtedly be both life-changing and challenging, bringing them into the world of theatre and drama.

“Many innovations have been implemented in the Theatre School lately”, says Micaela Miranda, the school’s Director and Movement teacher. “The most important is that, as a part of our capacity building philosophy we are integrating two of our graduated students into the faculty: Faisal Abu Alheyja and Ahmad Al-Rokh. We have also integrated cinema and acting for camera in our regular trainings with the help of our Film Unit experts.”

The Theatre School is supported by the European Union and by Sida, as part of the PAN program.
