This project aims to introduce groups of young boys and girls to the idea of theatre and to give them a space in which to work in-depth on the creation, development and presentation of ideas, joys, fears, hopes and dreams.
The activities of the project focus on various theatre production skills, such as acting, script reading and writing, creative drama, psychodrama, stage design, make up and costume design, but participants also take part in workshops in a range of supporting arts, including dance, movement, music and story telling.
In addition to regular trainings, the participating youth engage in the exciting process of preparing and rehearsing their own plays, which are performed in the theatre for a wide public. The very first of The Freedom Theatre's own productions will open in August 2007.
In addition to the more advanced Acting and Theatre Production project, younger children in the camp take part in regular Psychodrama Workshops. By utilising a largely therapeutic methodology, these workshops allow the participants to explore their internal conflicts by acting out their emotions and interpersonal interactions. Through the activities involved, the participants can learn to better understand themselves and their surroundings and develop a greater sense of self worth. These workshops foster the ability of the children to rise up to the challenges of their particular circumstances.
