Filmmaking

Multi-media center The main aim of this project is to provide youth in the community with the opportunity to develop new skills in all aspects of filmmaking, including photography, script writing, film directing, production and editing. Theoretical classes are combined with practical exercises and by coaching students to produce their own films, the project allows participants to tell their stories to the outside world.

As part of the filmmaking project, The Freedom Theatre is also organising an intensive capacity building programme for young aspiring filmmakers who, at the end of their course, will be able to produce high-quality films and at the same time share their expertise with the younger generation as trainers for the youth groups.
Youth and trainee films can be viewed online.

Photography

Multi-media center Through this project, youth in Jenin Camp learn technical skills of photography, including light, composition and perspective, and practice their skills using photography for story telling.
Throughout the course they work together with youth in the Journalism and Creative Writing workshops (see below) to produce material for The Freedom Theatre’s quarterly youth magazine, Voices.

In addition, participants regularly prepare photography exhibitions on subjects of their choice, to be displayed at The Freedom Theatre.

Journalism and Creative Writing

During these workshops, youth learn a range of skills in journalism and creative writing, such as research, interview techniques and writing journalistic as well as fictional pieces. Throughout the training period, the students work on texts for The Freedom Theatre’s quarterly Arabic language youth magazine Voices.

Each issue of the magazine is printed in 6,000 copies which are distributed in the local community, and the magazine is also published online in Arabic as well as English.

Web Design

Through this project, youth learn advanced computer skills, including web design and development. The participants will create their own websites, while also working on updating The Freedom Theatre’s youth website, a dynamic online platform where children and youth involved in The Freedom Theatre’s activities can present their work and communicate effectively with the local, national and international community.
